How detoxes are different from fad diets, which don’t work

With a constantly revolving list of fad diets capturing the attention of those hoping to win their battle with the bulge, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype – because that’s all many of these diets are, a lot of hype.

You’ve probably heard of eating raw, juice cleanses, the South Beach diet, Ketogenic diet, Paleo diet, Zone diet, Atkins diet, and soup cleanse. Maybe you’ve even tried some of them.

The thing is, these diets and weight loss programs don’t work. Countless statistics have shown that restrictive dieting leads to a diet-binge cycle. Even more important, the body’s natural response to starving, or severely restricted nutrients, will be a slowed metabolism which makes it harder to lose weight.

Why do an Ayurvedic detox?

An Ayurvedic detox is different. Based on 5000 years of ancient Indian knowledge, these detoxes take the load off your body and remove harmful chemicals and toxins that have accumulated – particularly in the liver, kidneys and bowel – while supporting and improving their functioning.

A detox will quite literally boost energy levels, improve digestion, make your eyes sparkle and your skin glow – while shifting unwanted kilos. It will reset your metabolism keeping weight balanced, so there is no more yo-yo dieting.

It can also help with chronic conditions. I recently worked with a patient who had tried every kind of cream and treatments under the sun to treat her eczema – the only thing that kept flare-ups at bay were harmful steroid creams, and these are just not sustainable in the long run and only mask the symptoms. After doing our 28-day detox, she came off all steroid creams and her eczema was completely cleared up. She feels like a new person.

Who needs to do one?

If you’ve been feeling any of these, it’s a clear message from your body that it’s time to do something about it:

·  Tiredness

·  Fatigue

·  Weight gain

·  Hot flushes

·  Thyroid issues

·  Decreased libido

·  Digestive issues

·  Lack of mojo

·  Depression

·  Anxiety

How is an Ayurvedic detox different?

Ayurvedic detoxes are centred around understanding your unique body type and then eating foods which will benefit your constitution. There will also be a combination of the six Ayurvedic tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent). Also, Ayurvedic herbs help the body expel toxins.

Detoxes range from a one-day cleanse, to seven or the full 28 days. Over the next three weeks I’m going to talk about what these mean so you can work out which is right for you.

New Year’s resolutions don’t work

There’s no better time than now. This is not because it’s the first week of January either - we all know that statistically speaking, writing a long list of New Year’s resolutions isn’t going to help you reach your goals.

For all the good intentions only eight per cent of people achieve their New Year’s goals, according to Forbes magazine. Come the second week of February approximately 80 per cent of resolutions have failed – so the odds are against you there.

We’re all about looking at health in a holistic way – focusing on what needs to be tweaked and improved and taking the steps to make that happen so you start living as the best version of you. Today.

The best New Year’s resolutions are the one that shift your identity, creating changes that will last and support your new you.
